5 Reasons To Go After our Dreams

There was only one man I ever wanted to get married to!

Winnetou, the bravest of the Apache Chiefs.

It was love at first sight. From the moment I watched the Winnetou series on TV I was hooked! I knew he was the one for me!

There was no doubt in my mind I was going to marry an Apache! He was the man of my dreams! I dreamed about him and a life in a tepee together!

This was then!

This is now:

I am married! To my brave, good looking Apache Chief with his impossible long, thick, black hair ?

In a twisted-kinda-sort-of-way! Yes! My dream came true! He isn’t Apache though. And what about the hair?

The Best Man of All doesn’t have black hair! He doesn’t have any for that matter!! And- big surprise here- we live in a house together!

How did that happen?

What went wrong?

Did I give up on my dream?

Nope, I tweaked it, I readjusted it. Winnetou, is not real! He doesn’t exist. But I never gave up dreaming about finding my version of this Apache. And when he showed up he appeared in the form of a balding, young American dressed in cute, grey suit pants and suspenders!

When it comes to matters of the heart we may not necessarily have control over whom we fall for.  The man of our dreams can show up in many shapes and forms. Most of the time we don’t even have to work hard to fall in love! It just happens!

When it comes to keeping our other dreams from childhood alive we need to work  a bit harder on them!

But then, why can’t we leave them alone? The dreams we dreamed about when we were children? Or the ideas we fantasize about as grown-ups?

Here is why: they belong to us! There is a reason why we keep on coming back to the same thing over and over again. It is something inside of us that wants to come out. It is part of us- of who we are!

Here are five reasons why we should go after our dreams:

1) Life is short!

Realistically, most of us have between 70- 90 years to live. Looking back at ones life and say, “Why didn’t I”…is the worst thing that can happen to all of us. Having regrets. Feeling sorry for oneself. Knowing, it is too late. Knowing we let the music inside of us die!  This, in one word, is tragic!

2) We become an inspiration!

As soon as we start working towards making our dreams come true we become an inspiration! Not only to ourselves (remember, you are your own experiment) but to others around us. And most importantly, to our children! When we set an example we involuntarily help, support and coach others to do the same.

3) We become stronger!

Why? Creating a dream requires to step out of our comfort zones. It requires to learn new skills. It requires to take nos on a regular basis.

4)  We become more attractive as a person

Yep, that’s what’s going to happen! How so? We are excited! We show enthusiasm! We vibrate passion! And this energy is contagious. We are on a natural high others feel naturally drawn to. You as a person become more determined and proud of yourself!

5) We learn valuable lessons!

If the outcome isn’t as fantastic as we hoped for we still learned incredible lessons! Lessons on how not- to build, create or  follow through with something! We also learned failure isn’t permanent! We realize our fear of embarrassing ourselves isn’t as bad as we imagined!
